THE WHISPERS

A veteran R&B quintet with an impressive legacy of hits, The Whispers celebrate over 40 years of enduring music. As one of R&B music’s most beloved and consistently popular vocal groups, they began their legendary and timeless career in 1963, producing a string of hits over the last four decades. The group emerged as the leading romantic singers of their generation, racking up one gold album after another and charting numerous R&B hits.

Arguably the most celebrated R&B balladeers of their generation, The Whispers still make women swoon with their silky yet forceful tenors of twins Walter and Scotty. In the new millennium The Whispers still perform around the world to thousands of loyal fans. They have not made any personnel changes and the group still consists of Walter Scott, Wallace Scott, Nicholas Caldwell, and Leaveil Degree. The Whispers are one of only a few “old school” groups that can boast of having over 40 years in the industry with a worldwide fan base, maintaining their vocal dominance and original members. Their music has been heard on movie sound tracks such as “Waiting to Exhale” and “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” and they sang the title track on Jay Leno’s movie soundtrack “Collision Course”.

Over 40 years of R & B and pop favorites later, spanning more than 3 dozen albums, the group has achieved numerous honors and distinctions.

STEPHANIE MILLS
Rising to fame as “the little girl with the big voice” starring for 5 years in the hit Broadway musical, “The Wiz”, Stephanie Mills has become one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music. The Grammy and American Music Award-winning recording artist, with her ultra soulful sound and captivating onstage energy, has had five best-selling albums and ten Billboard #1 singles.

Stephanie’s journey as an enduring performer began like that of so many of her contemporaries, singing gospel in church in her native Brooklyn, NY. Her vocal abilities became evident early on and by age 9, she was mesmerizing crowds in her first Broadway musical “Maggie Flynn,” sharing the stage with co-stars Shirley Jones and the late Jack Cassidy. Over an illustrious three decade career, Stephanie Mills has distinguished herself as an actress and performer who is as at home on the Broadway stage as she is in the recording studio. Her hit records such as “I Have Learned To Respect The Power Of Love,” “Home” and “Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin” have become enduring classics.

Critically acclaimed appearances in the 4-time Tony Award-winning “The Wiz” and “Your Arms Too Short To Box With God” have yielded a consistently loyal following among fans, industry insiders and critics alike. The recipient of NAACP Image Awards, Stephanie’s multifaceted career has also included recurring roles in popular TV soap operas “Search For Tomorrow” and “One Life To Live.”

Returning to the stage, Stephanie toured the country in the early 1990s with “The Wiz” and in the past decade, she has appeared in a number of highly-acclaimed roles in such shows as “Your Arms Too Short With Box” (starring with Teddy Pendergrass), “Children Of Eden,” “Ragtime,” “Play On” (a tribute to Duke Ellington’s music), “His Woman, His Wife” and “Black Nativity.” She began touring again in 2001 and has been wowing audiences in shows with artists including The O’Jays, Teddy Pendergrass, The Isley Brothers, Carl Thomas and at festivals featuring Mary J. Blige, India Arie, Alicia Keys, Babyface, and Smokey Robinson.

LILLO THOMAS

Before his singing career, Brooklyn born and bred Lillo Thomas was a highly successful athlete. At sixteen, clocking in at 20.8 seconds, he set the world record for the 200 metres. However, a car accident in Brazil kept him from competing in the 1984 Olympics. He continued running after the accident but then took a very different career path… in soul music.

Through his session singing with Evelyn “Champagne” King, Howard Johnson, George Benson, James Ingram, Kashif, and Melba Moore (for whom he wrote “Mind Up Tonight”), Lillo landed a solo recording deal with Capitol Records and began getting singles on the charts. His 1983 debut album entitled Let Me Be Yours included “(You’re A) Good Girl,” “Trust Me,” and a rendition of the Temptations classic “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me).” In 1984, “Your Love’s Got a Hold on Me” was his first Top 20 R&B single and in 1985, he recorded with Melba Moore on “When You Love Me Like This” and toured with comedian Eddie Murphy.

1987 marked three Top Ten R&B hits. “I’m in Love” reached the number two spot and remains his most successful single to date. Additionally, Lillo collaborated with Paul Lawrence on songs recorded by Melba Moore and Freddie Jackson.
